Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois

Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois

Oleksandr Usyk is gearing up to defend his unified heavyweight titles against the WBA mandatory challenger, Daniel Dubois. This match marks Dubois’ return to the ring after his last fight in December, where he managed a third-round stoppage victory against Kevin Lerena, despite facing challenges like a knee injury and being knocked down three times in the first round. The upcoming bout promises to be a high-stakes and intense encounter between these two determined fighters.

The Tale of the Tape

Usyk enters this upcoming fight with an unblemished record of 20 wins and no losses, 13 of which came by knockout. His most recent bout took place 1 year and 6 days ago against Anthony Joshua, in which he secured victory through a 12-round split decision. His distinction as the former undisputed world cruiserweight champion is indeed remarkable, establishing him as only the second undisputed cruiserweight champion in the division’s relatively brief history. Following his dominance in the cruiserweight category, Usyk made the transition to the heavyweight division in 2019. A true testament to his skill and determination, he remarkably captured the unified heavyweight championship in just his third heavyweight fight.

Dubois enters the ring with a record of 19 wins and 1 loss, an impressive 18 of those victories being achieved through knockouts. His most recent bout occurred 8 months and 23 days ago against Kevin Lerena, where he secured a win via a 3rd-round TKO. Dubois’ career path is marked by both successes and challenges. While he has notable achievements like defeating Trevor Bryan to secure the secondary WBA belt, his overall record and progression are subject to scrutiny. His last fight in December showcased both his resilience and vulnerability, as he was dropped three times in the opening round. Subsequent revelations indicated that Dubois had suffered a tear to his ACL, underscoring the challenges he has faced on his path to this upcoming fight against Usyk.

How will it go down?

Usyk must defeat the 25-year-old Dubois. He’s got a potential massive fight against WBC champion Tyson Fury in December in Saudi Arabia that would be on the line. Dubois comes into the fight with a four-fight winning streak but came close to losing his last bout against Kevin Lerena. He dropped three times in the first round by the southpaw Lerena and would have been finished off if the South African hadn’t stopped throwing punches after the first. Dubois injured right knee in that fight and has had surgery to repair the problem. Some believe that Dubois’ knee won’t be strong, given that it’s only eight months since the surgery. It is going to tough be for Dubois to stop Usyk’s winning streak.

However, Dubois is not going to be an easy fight. He has great punching power and this being the heavyweight division, one punch can win. There could be an upset on cards.

We Love Sport prediction

Dubois isn’t a complete walkover, but Usyk is one of the best heavyweight boxers ever. We believe Usyk is the better boxer and it has been proven multiple times that he loves fighting on the biggest occasions.

Prediction: Usyk via unanimous decision

Who is the favourite to win the 151st British Open Championship at Royal Liverpool?

We Love Sport takes a look at all the potential candidates to lift the famous Claret Jug

The last major of the year, begins this Thursday! Who will be lifting the Claret Jug on Sunday night? All we know is that there’ll be plenty of twists and turns along the way.

We Love Sport favourites for the Open Championship

1. Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy seems to be favourite in every major, but he is in a massive drought. We all know he has the quality but he doesn’t seem to be able to play well for all 4 days.

However, coming off the win at the Scottish Open means that he is peaking at the perfect time. Also, coming second at the US Open can become a great learning experience, he will have the hunger and ability to finally end his long drought without a major victory.

2. Rickie Fowler

A Rickie Fowler victory would be a fairytale story. During the period from 2021 to 2022, Rickie Fowler unfortunately did not qualify for several major championships. However, in the past month, Fowler has experienced a resurgence in form. He achieved an impressive T5 finish at the U.S. Open, setting a new all-time major scoring record.

Additionally, he shot a remarkable 60 at the Travelers Championship and secured victory at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, marking his first win in four years. Rickie Fowler is in unbelievable form and playing some the best golf he has ever done, so if there was a chance finally to get a major win, the time would be now.

3. Brooks Koepka

Mr. Major, Brooks Koepka, is set to return to Liverpool for another thrilling competition. With an impressive collection of five major titles, Koepka solidified his standing as a golfing force with a brilliant victory at the PGA Championship held at Oak Hill in May. While known as an American golf specialist, Koepka has also demonstrated his prowess at The Open, achieving four top-ten finishes in the past.

It’s worth noting that Royal Liverpool’s course may not heavily favour raw power, potentially posing a challenge to some of Koepka’s dominant strengths. However, given his exceptional form and consistent performance, there is no doubt that Koepka will be a contender in the mix once again as the tournament reaches its climax on Sunday evening.

4. Cameron Smith

Cameron Smith left many romantics disappointed as he shocked Rory McIlroy and emerged victorious at the historic 150th Open held at St Andrews last summer. With a remarkable final round of 64, the Australian golfer surpassed McIlroy and claimed the prestigious Claret Jug. Smith will return the coveted trophy on Monday morning, only to set his sights on reclaiming it and bringing it back down under.

As part of the LIV Tour, Smith’s exceptional form has persisted, evidenced by his impressive T9 finish at the PGA Championship and a fourth-place finish at the US Open. He further solidified his position as one of the best in the game by clinching victory at the recent LIV Golf London event at Centurion. Given his remarkable skills and recent successes, it would hardly come as a surprise if Smith manages to retain his Gold Medal at the upcoming tournament.

Watch F1 at the pub – why would you!?

Reasons NOT to watch F1 at the pub

The F1 season is well and truly underway with Red Bull continuing their dominance as they’ve flown out of the traps. There’s nothing worse than watching the sport in a pub. We Love Sport pubs and bars are great to watch sport in, but we cant figure out why anyone would want to watch Formula 1 in a pub. In fact, we’ve even given you reasons to convince you to STAY AWAY!

1. The pints are too cold & there’s too many options to pick from

We’ve all been there, right? You’ve been waiting for your first pint of the day. You & your mates have decided to go the pub for the F1. You arrive at your local We Love Sport pub or bar & you’re greeted with TOO many options to choose from. Then, when you FINALLY order, it’s too cold and way too fresh! At home, there’s lukewarm cans left, right and centre.

2. The TV’s are in such high quality

4K, UltraHD, HD. What’s all this nonsense? The best way to watch F1 through my SCART lead, like the good old days. The TV’s in the pubs are way too clear and don’t even start the conversation of the sizing. Who needs TV’s that big and clear?

3. The sound is perfectly clear and the right volume

Now this one really grinds my gears. The last thing anybody needs when watching Formula 1 is to hear any noise. The sound of the engines are just too loud. Yeah, cars are pretty but there’s no need to hear them so clearly! Not only that, there’s Crofty and the rest of Sky Race Control doing nothing but giving us information and updates. Don’t get that at home, simply mute it.

4. The atmosphere in the venue in the big moments is TOO electric

Verstappen getting Hamilton in the last lap in Abu Dhabi 2021 & Hamilton overtaking Perez & Leclerc in the one swoop in Silverstone 2022. The thought of the atmosphere in the pub when that happened was probably UNBEARABLE. It would’ve given goosebumps all around as the excitement kicked in. Nobody’s heart rate needs that. Better at home where the TV can just be switched to Friends (for the 1000th time) and forget all about the mental scenes that have just occurred.

5. The food is too nice and someone else cooks it for me

This is the final straw. Chicken wings, pizza, burgers!? They are too delicious in the pub and to be honest the line is drawn when someone else cooks the food. What do you mean that all that has to be done is order and a great chef will cook the food and bring it to the table as the racing is on? Nah, too far.

A BONUS REASON: Offers galore with The Pit Crew

Even if for some reason, we were stuck with no option but the pub, The Pit Crew offers deals such as free pints and money off of food. Why would we want to be stuck in the pub paying full price? Signing up to The Pit Crew drops in those offers in my email every single race week – I don’t want more emails!

Yep, that’s right. The pubs have a fantastic range of cold pints with a great variety of foods for you to choose from. Not only that, but the screens are also clear and large with We Love Sport pubs and bars having the perfect volume & top-drawer atmosphere for all of those big moments. So why would anybody ever consider watching Formula 1 in the pub!?
