Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois

Oleksandr Usyk is gearing up to defend his unified heavyweight titles against the WBA mandatory challenger, Daniel Dubois. This match marks Dubois' return to the ring after his last fight in December, where he managed a third-round stoppage victory against Kevin Lerena, despite facing challenges like a knee injury and being knocked down three times in the first round. The upcoming bout promises to be a high-stakes and intense encounter between these two determined fighters.

The Tale of the Tape

Usyk enters this upcoming fight with an unblemished record of 20 wins and no losses, 13 of which came by knockout. His most recent bout took place 1 year and 6 days ago against Anthony Joshua, in which he secured victory through a 12-round split decision. His distinction as the former undisputed world cruiserweight champion is indeed remarkable, establishing him as only the second undisputed cruiserweight champion in the division's relatively brief history. Following his dominance in the cruiserweight category, Usyk made the transition to the heavyweight division in 2019. A true testament to his skill and determination, he remarkably captured the unified heavyweight championship in just his third heavyweight fight.

Dubois enters the ring with a record of 19 wins and 1 loss, an impressive 18 of those victories being achieved through knockouts. His most recent bout occurred 8 months and 23 days ago against Kevin Lerena, where he secured a win via a 3rd-round TKO. Dubois' career path is marked by both successes and challenges. While he has notable achievements like defeating Trevor Bryan to secure the secondary WBA belt, his overall record and progression are subject to scrutiny. His last fight in December showcased both his resilience and vulnerability, as he was dropped three times in the opening round. Subsequent revelations indicated that Dubois had suffered a tear to his ACL, underscoring the challenges he has faced on his path to this upcoming fight against Usyk.

How will it go down?

Usyk must defeat the 25-year-old Dubois. He’s got a potential massive fight against WBC champion Tyson Fury in December in Saudi Arabia that would be on the line. Dubois comes into the fight with a four-fight winning streak but came close to losing his last bout against Kevin Lerena. He dropped three times in the first round by the southpaw Lerena and would have been finished off if the South African hadn’t stopped throwing punches after the first. Dubois injured right knee in that fight and has had surgery to repair the problem. Some believe that Dubois’ knee won’t be strong, given that it’s only eight months since the surgery. It is going to tough be for Dubois to stop Usyk's winning streak.

However, Dubois is not going to be an easy fight. He has great punching power and this being the heavyweight division, one punch can win. There could be an upset on cards.
