EUROPA LEAGUE THURSDAYS – GAMEWEEK 4

As the Champions League begins its two week break, attention turns to the Europa League to close up the fourth gameweek of the European season. We at We Love Sport will be looking at the two English clubs competing in the competition. Just like last week, we're working with Heineken to offer 2-4-1 Heineken products to We Love Sport app users for the European games! The Rashford Revival Manchester United welcome Omonia Nicosia to Old Trafford, after the Cypriot side gave the Red Devils a bit of a scare in last week’s tie. United went into the second half 1-0 down and Erik ten Hag brought on Marcus Rashford to try and save the day. The Mancunian forward scored two and set up Anthony Martial, but still only won 3-2 after a late goal from Omonia.

This week, Omonia make the journey and United will be hoping to put in a much better and more comfortable performance than they did in Cyprus. It’s a peculiar situation for ten Hag, as he started a very strong team last week, but they still struggled. The addition of Marcus Rashford obviously saved the day and fit-again Anthony Martial played and got on the score sheet. Martial has 3 goals and 1 assist in 77 minutes of football and ten Hag will be hoping he can continue this run of form and help solve the problems United face. Real Sociedad defeated Sheriff Tiraspol last week and stay top of the group. United must win this game to stay in contention to top the group and gain some form before heading to the Anoeta to face Sociedad. Arsenal’s charge continues This week, Arsenal travel to the north of Norway to face Bodo/Glimt for the second time in a week. Last week, Arsenal defeated the side 3-0 with a heavily rotated squad with Nketiah, Holding and new signing Vieira getting on the scoresheet. The game was one sided, and despite the Bodo fans being great, their side left them disappointed.

Heading into this game, Arteta is likely again to field a rotated side with it not being far off of the side who beat Bodo. The beauty for Arsenal fans is that it seems no matter who plays for the Gunners, they’re going to be on fire and playing well. After this, Arsenal face back to back games with PSV who are without doubt their biggest test in their group, so heading into that with the maximum points available will be key in their quest to top the group. Can’t forget the Conference League The UEFA Europa Conference League is not a competition that is at the forefront of people’s minds, even the teams involved. However, the fact is that silverware is silverware and not many teams in the competition have tasted it in recent times. West Ham host Anderlecht this week after Gianluca Scamacca’s goal gave the Hammers a 1-0 win in Belgium. Similar to Arsenal, they are flying and a win will send them through. Hearts travel to Italy to face Fiorentina and will be hoping it is a bit easier than the game last week. A 3-0 win for the Italians put some manners on the Jam Tarts and sent them out of the qualifying places.
