The 2021 NFL regular season continues Sunday with the 6pm Sky Sports matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles. Our resident NFL writer Liz Bhandari from NFLGirlUK.com takes a deeper look at what to expect. This matchup is one of the most intriguing games this weekend. The 49ers were able to dominate the Detroit Lions in the first half of their season opener, winning 38-10 at one point in the game. However, they almost couldn’t pull away with a victory somehow. The Lions stormed back and had the football in 49er territory with just a minute left. Unfortunately, they couldn’t convert on fourth down and lost the game 41-33. Meanwhile, the Eagles absolutely stomped on the Atlanta Falcons in their first game, winning 32-6.

San Francisco 49ers

These two teams are both wildly unpredictable. The 49ers have a ton of offensive talent, but they rotate their starters so often that it is hard to know who will have a great game. George Kittle and Deebo Samuel seem like great bets to carry this offense with Brandon Aiyuk being held to just 26 total snaps in the season opener. Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance will likely continue to split snaps at quarterback occasionally until one of them completely pulls away in the competition. With Raheem Mostert’s injury, San Francisco now must work a new committee with Trey Sermon, JaMychal Hasty and Elijah Mitchell. Their defense was also phenomenal in the first half against Detroit like I mentioned earlier and will need that performance rather than whatever happened to them in the second half.

Philadelphia Eagles

As for the Eagles, they showed a lot of promise in their thrashing of the Falcons. For one, Jalen Hurts absolutely looks like the starting quarterback of the future for Philadelphia. He was calm, composed and knew when to take off and run the football himself. Miles Sanders took over his starting running back duties as usual, but Boston Scott seemed to be jumped by Kenneth Gainwell for the number two spot. DeVonta Smith is already making an impact on this offense also, he scored a touchdown in the season opener and had regained his chemistry with Hurts from college. Philadelphia’s defense looked fantastic also, their secondary was clamping up Kyle Pitts and Calvin Ridley after their first two drives past and their defensive line was bullying the offensive line the whole game. It was like every time Matt Ryan dropped back to pass, he was being hit by two or three Eagles players at a time.   I believe that this is going to be an incredibly tough game to bet on considering that neither team really stands out from the other. In my opinion, I just think that the 49ers are built somewhat like the Eagles but are better at the skill positions. Both teams have great defensive lines and a mediocre secondary, but San Francisco has too many weapons to keep track of offensively to stop them forever. I like their chances here.     [fixture id=7982 btn label="Book Now"] [fixture id=7983 btn label="Book Now"]   Soak in all the action and excitement of the NFL this season with We Love Sport for the Steelers @ Bills game.
