Matchroom Presents: Leigh Wood vs Josh Warrington

Preview: Leigh Wood vs Josh Warrington

Two of Britain’s best meet in Sheffield as Leigh Wood puts his WBA Featherweight title on the line against former 2-time IBF champ Josh Warrington. The two fighters clash in what’s bound to be one of the best domestic matchups in the past decade.

This fight has not been given as much coverage as it deserves, however We Love Sport know a great fight when we see one. A selection of pubs and bars will be showing the fight across the country. The atmosphere of the arena is hard to beat, but our pubs and bars will be a very close second!

The Tale of the Tape

Leigh Wood (27-3) is the current WBA Featherweight Champion from Nottingham who has taken the long way to the top. Wood really began to get recognition in 2021 after he defeated Xu Can and was then scheduled to face unbeaten Irish Olympic Gold Medallist, Michael Conlan. Wood defeated Conlan to earn himself at the top table, where he then got knocked out by Mauricio Lara. Wood then avenged his loss in May of this year to reclaim his featherweight belt.

Leeds’s finest boxing son Josh Warrington (31-2-1) is stepping up after losing his IBF Featherweight title vs Luis Alberto Lopez last time out. It’s not been the greatest spell for Warrington who’s only won 1 of his last 4 fights, knocking out Kiko Martinez. From 2017 to 2019, Warrington was unstoppable. He defeated a host of big names like Carl Frampton, Lee Selby and Kid Galahad. Like Wood, he’s fought Mauricio Lara twice. Unlike Wood, Warrington didn’t defeat the Mexican. A one-sided clash in the first fight saw Lara shock the world and the second fight ended in a technical draw.

How will it go down?

Prime Josh Warrington vs Prime Leigh Wood would be a very tough fight to call. That’s not the fight we’re calling though. Both men have a decent resume, despite their different routes. Wood is 35 and only just really getting his flowers whilst there’s a case that Warrington’s powers are weaning despite being 32.

It’s going to be a very technical fight between two phenomenal fighters. Wood has double the amount of finishes that Warrington has, with a slightly bigger reach. Wood clearly is in the better form and that would make him the favourite.

We Love Sport prediction

As mentioned, it’s a tough one to call. Warrington seriously needs to find his old self and fast. Leigh Wood might be older but he’s blossomed late. If the Warrington of the past four years turns up, it could be a long night at the office. Likely though, it’s going to be a very technical bout with neither men wanting to take a step back. However, if we had to choose, Leigh Wood would be the one to put the money on.

Prediction: Leigh Wood by Unanimous Decision

Judgement Day: Pre-Fight Preview

KSI & Tommy Fury meet on 14th of October as Tommy Fury aims to defeat another YouTube boxing star. Fury hasn’t fought since he became the first man to defeat Jake Paul back in February, whilst KSI is back after his no contest vs Joe Fournier. The two have had bad blood in their press conferences and will be on the same card as Logan Paul vs Dillon Danis. Manchester plays host for the Misfits event.

People mightn’t like the influencer boxing scene for many reasons, but it’s hard to deny it’s success! But, as Tommy Fury ends to put a hammer blow into the scene, We Love Sport pubs and bars across the country will be showing the event. So, get yourself a table and some pints and wait to see if Tommy Fury can score his tenth victory in professional boxing.

The Tale of the Tape

KSI’s boxing “career” hasn’t really been anything like Jake Paul who is the true face of the YouTube boxing scene. In fact it’s not even entirely clear what his record is due to him fighting in so many exhibitions. All you really need to know though, is he’s fought a ton of people who aren’t boxers and hasn’t been spectacular at all. It’s below amateur. Fantastic YouTube career, great businessman but he’s not a boxer.

Tommy Fury is also bordering on a gimmicky professional career. In fairness, most boxers with big reputations have a very padded record at the start, but Tommy’s last few fights haven’t even been against those his own weight. Fury is 9-0 though and is doing God’s work by taking on and trying to defeat the two main men in YouTube boxing. Jake Paul’s been defeated and now he aims to defeat KSI, before hopefully heading back into the real boxing world and make inroads into the title picture

How will it go down?

To be honest, it’s probably going to be quite straightforward. A boxer vs a YouTuber – in the most literal sense. At least Jake Paul has fought some genuine fighters and put his heart and soul into boxing. KSI is a YouTuber who will likely stop boxing after this fight or go back to fighting nobodies. Tommy Fury should steamroll KSI in this 6 round exhibition

We Love Sport prediction

Tommy Fury doesn’t have much knockout power but he should really finish KSI by purely just overwhelming him.

Prediction: Tommy Fury by TKO – referee stoppage.

Rugby World Cup 2023 Preview

Rugby World Cup 2023 Preview: Battle for Global Supremacy

Across the world, anticipation is building as the Rugby World Cup 2023 approaches. Set against the backdrop of the enchanting French landscape, this tournament promises to be a sporting spectacle like no other. Teams from across the globe are converging on French soil, seeking to etch their names in the annals of rugby history. Let’s delve into what lies ahead in this eagerly awaited tournament.

We Love Sport pubs and bars will be there all tournament long and we can’t wait to welcome you in. No matter who you’re supporting, we’ll be showing the games and you can enjoy with a free pint of Asahi Super Dry!

French Flair

Host nation France is determined to showcase their prowess on home turf. Renowned for their flair and artistry, the French team boasts an array of talented players who can turn a match on its head in the blink of an eye. With an excited home crowd behind them, Les Bleus will be a formidable force to reckon with. They are the second ranked side on the planet and undoubtedly will be looking to win their first World Cup.

Luck of the Irish

Ireland are the best team in the world, emphatically defeating everyone in their path over the last year or so. They will be aiming to win the Webb Ellis trophy over in France. However, it won’t be easy. The Six Nations champions are in a very tough pool and surprisingly have never gotten further than the quarter finals.

Southern Hemisphere Powerhouses

Thee southern hemisphere sides namely New Zealand, Australia and South Africa, have consistently dominated the World Cup.  South Africa are the current World Champions and will be heading to France to defend their crown. Also, The All Blacks have a storied history in the tournament. New Zealand will unquestionably be there fighting to the end to take back a trophy they so often win.

The Home Nations Ambitions

England, Wales & Scotland will be hoping to break the southern hemisphere stranglehold. England, the 2003 champions, boast a physical and disciplined style of play that can grind down opponents. Despite that though, they are in a shocking vain of form over the past year. Likewise with Wales, it’s certainly not been a great period. Comparatively, Scotland are in great form and will be looking to make some headway in this tournament.

Dark Horses and Emerging Nations

In the ever-evolving landscape of rugby, dark horse teams like Japan and Argentina have shown they can upset the established order. Japan’s mesmerizing performance in the 2019 World Cup is still fresh in the memory, while the Pumas’ resilience and flair have earned them respect on the global stage. Keep an eye on these underdogs, along with emerging nations like Fiji and Georgia, as they aim to make their mark.

Tournament Expectations

Expectations are sky-high for this tournament, with fans eagerly awaiting the battles on the pitch and the camaraderie off it. The Rugby World Cup 2023 transcends borders, uniting fans in their love for the game and celebrating the spirit of competition.

If the Irish can beat their quarter final hoodoo, then they’re in with a shout. France have home advantage and you can never rule out South Africa or New Zealand. England and Wales aren’t at their strongest but they certainly have a nice route to the semi finals.

We Love Sport x Rugby World Cup 2023

As the world gears up for a month of rugby fever, one thing is certain – the Rugby World Cup 2023 promises to be an epic journey filled with passion, drama, and moments that will be etched in rugby folklore forever. May the best team emerge victorious, and may the spirit of rugby continue to unite nations and captivate hearts around the globe. We’ll be there the whole way through the tournament, so find your local and watch the Rugby World Cup 2023 with us in a We Love Sport pub or bar.
